The hardest thing about being a florist, for me anyway, is hunting down flowers that I love. The market has lots of beautiful things but even what's local and in season has been chosen for it's longevity or reliability. It's almost impossible to find anything short lived or delicate or irregularly coloured and those, to me, are the most beautiful flowers of all. The only way to get those kinds of flowers is to grow them yourself.
So that's what doing! Right now I'm half way through my first, proper growing year - I have beautiful soil, a few perennials and lots of seedlings (seriously so, so many - never look at a seed catalogue if you don't want to become addicted).
My goal for this wedding season is for evening job to include a proportion of my own flowers.
